Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus has distributed Ekushey Padak 2025, the second highest civilian award of the country, to 17 dignitaries and women's football team. The award handing ceremony held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.
This year, five people received the Ekushey Padak in the arts, one in journalism, one in journalism and human rights, one in culture and education, one in education, four in science and technology, one in social service, two in language and literature, one in research, and the national women's football team in sports.
Filmmaker Azizur Rahman, famed for his work on 'Chhutir Ghonta,' was conferred the award posthumously for his contributions to Arts (Cinema). In music, the recipients were Ustad Nirad Baran Barua (posthumous) and Ferdous Ara.
The late journalist Mahfuz Ullah was conferred the award for Journalism, while Amader Desh Editor and former energy adviser to Khaleda Zia, Mahmudur Rahman, was awarded in the Journalism and Human Rights category.
Among others, Dr Niaz Zaman was conferred the award for his contribution to the education sector, while Mohammad Yusuf Chowdhury was honoured posthumously for social service, and Moyeedul Hasan was recognised for research.
