Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: India bundled Bangladesh for a meager 228 runs despite Towhid Hridoy's first ODI century in their first group-stage match of the Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Earlier, Bangladesh's top order failed miserably, collapsing to 35-5 within nine overs after captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bangladesh lost their first wicket, opener Soumya Sarkar, in the very first over of the game, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed in the second over. At that time, the scoreboard showed only two runs.

Mohammad Shami was spectacular on the day, achieving a significant milestone by becoming the fastest Indian to claim 200 ODI wickets.

He took five wickets spending 53 runs in 10 overs, while debutant Harshit Rana secured 3/31. Axar Patel's spin proved effective, also taking 2/43.

Amid the early collapse, Towhid Hridoy emerged as the linchpin for Bangladesh’s innings. Displaying resilience, Hridoy notched up a commendable century, remaining unbeaten on 100 off 118 balls.

He was well-supported by Jaker Ali, who contributed a steady 68 runs. Together, they orchestrated a crucial 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket, steering Bangladesh to a more respectable total.

Eventually, Bangladesh were all out in 49.4 overs for 228.

Hridoy was the last batter out on 100 off 118 balls. His innings included 2 sixes and 6 fours.
