Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed today left here for Gambia on an official visit. The Chief went on this visit at the invitation of the Gambian government for the purpose of verifying the capabilities and determining the next approach for the first time Bangladesh-Gambia joint contingent deployment in the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
A high-member delegation including Gambia's Foreign Minister Dr Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Defense Sheikh Omar Faye and Defense Minister Lieutenant General Yankuba A Drammeh and Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Yankuba A Drammeh visited Dhaka on February 8-13, 2023.
In continuation of this, the visit of the Army Chief is being held with the aim of inspecting Gambia's proposals and capabilities on the ground. For the same purpose, a delegation of two members from the UN headquarters will also attend this tripartite meeting.
During the visit, the Chief of Army Staff will meet the President of The Gambia Adama Barrow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and senior military and civilian officials.
During the meeting, peacekeeping activities between the two countries, including training and bilateral cooperation will be discussed. Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed will return to the country on June 16.
