Teachers’ pension scheme to be effective from July 2025: Obaidul Quader

Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the universal pension scheme Prottoy will be effective from July 1, 2025, instead of this year.

He made the announcement at a press conference held at the Awami League President's political office in Dhanmondi on Saturday.

Quader said that the information provided earlier regarding the inclusion of government university teachers in 2024 was incorrect.

He further added: "The information given by the prime minister in the parliament stating that the scheme would start in 2024 was also incorrect. Everyone will be included in the pension scheme from July 1, 2025. We have clearly communicated this to them."

Regarding the issue of providing super grade to teachers, Obaidul Quader said: "We will present the demands and status of public university teachers to the higher authorities and the prime minister. We will make decisions through subsequent discussions. We hope for a resolution through discussions."

He also mentioned that the teachers have been requested to withdraw their work abstention.

The teachers after the meeting said that they will make a decision after discussing it with the leaders of their federation.

The meeting began at the Dhanmondi office of the Awami League president at 11:30am.

A 10-member delegation of teachers, including the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association's Secretary General Prof Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, and Prof Zeenat Huda, general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association, joined the meeting.

Quader was accompanied by Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, PM's advisor on education and culture; Begum Shamsun Naher, state minister for education; AL joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim; and Biplab Barua, AL office secretary and special assistant to PM.
