Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: The Appellate Division has dismissed the leave to appeal against the cancellation of admission of 169 first-grade students at the school branch of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka, accused of not following age regulations.

A three-judge appellate bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan issued this order on Sunday.

Lawyer Mohammad Rafiul Islam stood for the principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College at the hearing on Sunday morning, and Lawyer Shamim Sardar represented the two parents who filed the writ petitions.

Now, those on the waiting list will have the opportunity to secure admission to these 169 seats.

On May 21, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) cancelled the admission of 169 first graders at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College due to non-compliance with enrolment regulations.

Following this, two leave-to-appeal applications were filed on behalf of the students whose admissions were cancelled.

On January 14, the parents of two students seeking admission filed a writ petition, alleging that the school admitted students beyond the age limit.

The High Court responded on January 23 by ordering the cancellation of these admissions and issuing a rule. Later, Viqarunnisa Noon School and College authorities, under DSHE guidance, cancelled the admissions of 169 students.

In response, 136 parents filed another writ challenging the validity of the admission cancellations. The High Court issued a ruling on this matter on March 25. Following joint hearings on these separate rules, the High Court scheduled the final verdict for on May 21.
