Sylhet, Banladesh Global: An Awami League leader named Kamal Ahmed has been detained while he was allegedly trying to flee to India illegally through the Rajbari border in the Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.
He is the Jaintapur Awami League president and former upazila chairman.
He was detained by local people. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and later army personnel arrived at the scene and handed him over to the Jalalabad police.
Both the BGB and locals claim that Kamal Ahmed attempted to cross into India through the border area on Saturday evening. The locals detained him during this attempt. However, there is no specific information about his attempt to infiltrate India.
Jaintapur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tajul Islam said: “Kamal Ahmed is a suspect in a case filed at Jalalabad police station.”
Local sources report that Kamal Ahmed owns several properties and a garden house in the Guabari area.
Recently, he has been involved in disputes with local residents over these properties, leading to dissatisfaction among locals. On Saturday morning, he was staying at his garden house in Guabari, where he faced local resentment.
