Met office forecasts heavy rainfall in 5 divisions

Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted moderately heavy to very heavy falls in five divisions.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is also likely to occur at most places in three divisions, at many places in two divisions and at a few places in another three divisions, said a met office release valid for 24 hours from 9am on Wednesday.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions; at many places in Dhaka and Sylhet divisions; and at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions," it said.

Moderately heavy to very heavy falls are likely at some places in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, it also said.

A depression over Odisha and adjoining area has moved west northwestwards, weakened into a well-marked low over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area.

It is likely to weaken gradually and merge with the monsoon axis. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, centre of the well-marked low, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay.

Day and night temperatures may fall by 1-2°C over the country, the BMD said.

The country's highest temperature on Tuesday was 36.2°C in Rangpur and the lowest on Wednesday was 25.6°C in Kutubdia.

The highest rainfall for the 24 hours till 6am on Wednesday was recorded at 86 millimetres (mm) in Kutubdia.
