Kafi on 5-day remand in murder case

Dhaka, Bangladesh global: Abdullahhil Kafi, former Dhaka district’s Additional Superintendent of Police, has been placed on a five-remand in a case filed on charge of killing of MIST student Shaikh Ashabul Yamin.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Julhas Uddin passed the order on Thursday after investigation officer of the case and Savar Model Police Station’s Inspector Abdullah Biswas produced Kafi before the court and pleaded for a seven-day remand.

After hearing of both sides, the court rejected the bail petition of the defendant and granted the remand.

Earlier, on September 2Abdullahhil Kafi was arrested at The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained Abdullahil Kafi from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The next day, a Dhaka court placed him on an eight-day remand in a case filed in connection with an abduction case under Hazaribagh Police Station.

According to the case statement, on July 18, during a peaceful procession of Anti-Discrimination Students Movement, police and Awami Leaguer activists attacked the protestors. At one stage, they dragged Yamin to a police armoured vehicle and shot him in the left side of his chest.

On-duty policemen kept Yamin on top of the police vehicle and drove the car to intimidate the protesting students and people.

Yamin was thrown almost dead on the street and a policeman came out of the armored vehicle and shot him in the leg again. The policeman dragged Yamin from one end of the road to the other and threw him beside the road divider.

He was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar where doctors declared him dead.

On August 25, father of the victim filed the case against 49 people ,including former premier Sheikh Hasina with a Dhaka court.
