Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, was laid to eternal rest beside the grave of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near the Central Mosque of Dhaka University this afternoon.
He was buried around 3:50 PM after his namaz-e-janaza, which was attended by hundreds of thousands at the South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban. Hadi's coffin was taken to the grave wrapped in the national flag of Bangladesh. Prayers were offered after the burial for eternal peace of his departed soul. Based on the family's request, the body was buried beside Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the Dhaka University campus.
The Chief Adviser, numerous senior officials, politicians and people from all walks of life together performed Hadi's funeral in congregation as one of the largest funerals in Bangladesh history. Hadi's elder brother Mawlana Dr Abu Bakar Siddique administered the namaj-e-janaza and offered prayers seeking forgiveness of his departed soul. Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber spoke on the occasion as well. The Chief Adviser also spoke on the occasion and Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain read out the biography of Hadi.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi was an aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 seat who was shot on December 12 after Jummah prayer and announced dead on December 18 in Singapore after extensive treatment. After reinforced security, the coffin was transferred through Hangar Gate No. 8 and taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases mortuary, where it was kept overnight. The interim government declared Saturday a day of state mourning.
