Security will be tight nationwide ahead of Christmas Day

News Desk, Bangladesh Global: Security has been tightened across the country ahead of Christmas Day, the largest religious festival of the Christian community, to ensure peaceful celebrations. Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the government has taken all necessary measures to allow Christians to celebrate Christmas with due religious fervor and in a festive environment.

“Christmas Day is the largest religious festival of the Christian community. Required security measures have already been taken to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations,” he said, adding that appropriate security arrangements have been put in place at every church. The Home Adviser also noted that many areas of the capital have been brought under increased security to prevent any unwanted incidents.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has also imposed a temporary restriction on the use of fireworks, crackers, lanterns and gas balloons in Dhaka to ensure a peaceful and solemn celebration of Christmas. The restrictions will remain in force from 6:00 pm on December 24, 2025, to 6:00 am on December 26, 2025.

Christmas is the largest annual festival of the Christian faith which is celebrated on December 25th to represent Jesus Christ's birth, marked by religious observance and secular traditions like gift-giving, decorating trees, caroling, and festive meals with family, blending Christian significance with worldwide cultural festivities of joy, kindness, and goodwill. Originating from "Christ's Mass," it's a global event, with traditions like Santa Claus, mistletoe and wreaths filling homes.
