Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq yesterday handed over Islamabad's condolence message to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on the death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, reflecting Pakistan's deep respect for Bangladesh's late uncompromising leader. Sadiq met Tarique Rahman at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban this afternoon and formally conveyed the condolence message, according to a post shared on the BNP's verified Facebook page.
"Neighboring country Pakistan has sent a condolence message expressing deep respect at the death of Begum Khaleda Zia - hailed as the "Mother of Democracy" and a "symbol of courage and struggle," an uncompromising leader committed to safeguarding independence and sovereignty," read the Facebook post.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly arrived in Dhaka to attend the funeral of the former prime minister and BNP chairperson, representing the Government of Pakistan.
He was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by the Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan High Commission's Press Counsellor in Dhaka Fasih Ullah Khan told the journalists. The flight carrying Sardar Ayaz Sadiq landed at the Dhaka airport at around 11:50am, HSIA spokesperson Flight Lieutenant Masud said.
