News Desk, Bangladesh Global: Several foreign dignitaries have arrived in Dhaka to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh's new cabinet under the BNP-led government of Tarique Rahman, scheduled for this afternoon.
Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay both arrived today and were received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by the interim government's Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain. A high-level Indian delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has also arrived at Bangladesh Air Force Base in Dhaka.
The Indian delegation, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, arrived on an Indian Air Force special aircraft at the Bangladesh Air Force airbase in Dhaka. Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pranay Verma, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah received the delegation. The United Kingdom will be represented by Minister for the Indo-Pacific Seema Malhotra.
The interim government had invited heads of government from more than a dozen countries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, along with foreign ministers from several other nations. The foreign ministers of Nepal, Sri Lanka and other countries are also expected to attend the ceremony. Leaders from China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Brunei were also amongst those invited.
