No external pressure can influence Bangladesh-China relations: Chinese Ambassador

News Desk, Bangladesh Global: Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said no external pressure or third party would be able to influence China-Bangladesh relations, reaffirming Beijing’s firm support for strengthening bilateral cooperation under the new government.

The envoy made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the foreign ministry here today. Responding to a question about possible external pressure aimed at reducing China’s influence in Bangladesh, Yao said no outside force could affect Dhaka-Beijing ties.

He said that both countries are committed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and continuing implementation of the ongoing projects. Yao also stated that China highly appreciates and supports the new government’s “Bangladesh First” policy and remains committed to deepening comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

He said discussions on the Teesta Master Plan have been going on for a long time and expressed hope that the project would be launched soon. Describing his first meeting with the foreign minister as sincere and friendly, the ambassador said both sides held in-depth and pragmatic discussions on bilateral relations, economic cooperation and key issues including the Rohingya crisis. He added that the recently held 13th parliamentary election in a peaceful and orderly manner is a victory for democracy in Bangladesh and China is ready to extend all support for ensuring smooth governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
