Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: BNP leaders and activists began gathering in front of Naya Paltan on Saturday to participate in a rally demanding the release of their chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia. Preparation for the rally commenced amid the rain.

A temporary stage was set up using five trucks, and the mic installation was completed. Traffic on the two roads in front of the BNP central office has already been halted.

Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP's media cell, said that Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was on his way to attend the rally.

BNP activists from around the capital were seen arriving in groups, getting off buses, and marching to the rally venue with small banners and festoons, chanting slogans for Khaleda Zia's release. Many wore party flags and badges on their heads.

BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the rally would start at 2pm in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan to demand the unconditional release of Khaleda Zia.

The event is expected to be the largest BNP gathering since the general meeting on October 28 last year, held before the national parliamentary election.

BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will be the chief guest at the Naya Paltan rally, with standing committee member Mirza Abbas presiding.

Members of law enforcement were observed in alert positions at road junctions in the Naya Paltan area, with riot cars, prison vans, and pickups in sight. Additionally, plainclothes law enforcement officers were active.
