Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh Global: Two people, including a child, were killed following a landslide at a Rohingya camp in Balukhali, Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar early Wednesday.

One of the deceased was identified as Anwar Islam, son of Dil Mohammad, a Rohingya resident of Block F-1. Details about the child, who was killed in an area adjacent to Camp No. 8, remain unknown.

Shamsud Douza Nayan, additional commissioner of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office, reported that intermittent moderate to heavy rain throughout Tuesday turned into a downpour after midnight. Around 4am, a sudden landslide occurred in Block F of Camp No. 11 in Balukhali, Ukhiya, resulting in the collapse of a residential house and the death of a Rohingya resident who was buried under the debris. Volunteers are currently conducting rescue operations at the camp.

Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shamim Hossain confirmed that a child was killed due to a landslide in the mountainous area adjacent to Balukhali No. 8 camp.

Cox's Bazar district has been experiencing persistent moderate to heavy rains for weeks, causing water levels in various rivers to rise.

The Meteorological Office has issued local warning signal No. 3 for the Cox's Bazar coast due to low-pressure clouds forming over the sea, making the sea rough. The district administration has warned tourists against bathing in the sea.

On June 19, two local Bangladeshi residents and eight Rohingyas were killed in a mountain collapse in and around the Rohingya camp.
