Police knew constable Kawsar's mental sickness: IGP

Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Police department knew about the mental illness of constable Kawsar Ali, who shot his colleague dead at Baridhara diplomatic zone on Saturday, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Tuesday.

"We deployed him again for duty after a doctor said that he is fully fit for the job."

The IGP said these at a programme at Rajarbag Police Line, the IGP said, "Police knew about Kawsar's mental sickness.We deployed him again for duty after a doctor said that he is fully fit for the job. But we will remain more cautious in future about any deployment."

Earlier, Kawsar's family members said that he was not drag addict and was not suffering from any family problem.

He was suffering from mental illness and received treatment from hospital.

Gulshan Police Station OC Majharul Islam earlier said, "We were not aware of Kawsar's mental condition," while replied reporters during a query.

Constable Kawsar Ahmed shot his colleague Monirul to death at night on Saturday (June 8) following a heated altercation while they were on-duty near the Palestine Embassy in the capital.

After that, a case was filed with Gulshan Police Station.
