Sunamganj, Bangladesh Global: Former planning minister and ex-lawmaker for Sunamganj-3 MA Mannan has been sent to jail.
Police presented Mannan before the Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Court, where Judge Farhan Sadiq, after a hearing, ordered his transfer to jail on Friday.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the former planning minister was arrested in a case filed over an attack on students during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Advocate Shafiqul Islam, representing Mannan, said: "We tried to explain to the court that his health condition is not good. However, the court, after considering all aspects, sent him to jail."
The plaintiff's lawyer, Mashuk Alam, said: "Since the relevant court was not available today, the former minister has been sent to jail. On the next date, we will seek his remand to uncover all the details about who planned the attack on the students."
Police arrested Mannan in a raid on his residence in Shantiganj, Sunamganj, late Thursday.
