SYLHET, Bangladesh Global: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said the nation's most valuable asset -- its youth -- has awakened and it is this dynamic and courageous young generation that led the 2024 July mass uprising.

"We want to harness the strength of this youth power to build a just and equitable Bangladesh based on fairness and integrity," he told a party gathering at South Surma in Sylhet today.

The Sylhet district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami organized the conference of polling center-based representatives from Sylhet-2 and Sylhet-3 constituencies ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Dr. Rahman said that in their envisioned Bangladesh, there will be no place for corruption, terrorism, or extortion. "We will tolerate no obstacle in our efforts to build a corruption-free and well-governed Bangladesh. Together with patriotic students and citizens, we will continue our struggle against graft and bribery," he added.

He said, "We have not leased out Bangladesh to anyone. Many people have sacrificed their lives to free the country from fascism. We must honor the blood of our martyrs and ensure they receive due respect. Their sacrifices cannot go in vain."

Commenting on the legality of the July Charter, the Jamaat Ameer said without a constitutional basis, the charter holds no value. "This is why most political parties have united in demanding a public referendum initiated by Jamaat. The interim government must take this issue seriously," he said.

Chaired by Jamaat's Central Majlish-e-Shura member and Sylhet district Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman, it was also attended by Central Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Working Committee member and Sylhet City Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam as special guests.

District Assistant Secretary Principal Nazrul Islam and District Majlish-e-Shura member and former Fenchuganj Upazila Chairman Saifullah Al-Hosain jointly conducted the event.

Sylhet District Nayeb-e-Ameer and Jamaat-nominated candidate for Sylhet-2 Professor Abdul Hannan, Sylhet Regional Team member and Sylhet-1 election management committee convener Hafiz Abdul Hai Harun, District Secretary and Sylhet-4 nominee Md. Zainal Abedin, Sylhet City Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Nurul Islam Babul, Sylhet-3 nominee Maulana Lokman Ahmad and District Assistant Secretary Maulana Mashuk Ahmad also addressed on the occasion.
