Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: A court here today ordered the attachment of land worth around Taka 176.12 crore, owned by former Exim Bank chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder, and the freezing of his three bank accounts.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The petition stated that Nazrul Islam Majumder abused his authority and amassed wealth worth Taka 781.31 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income, through bribery and corruption, and kept the illegally obtained assets under his possession. Based on these allegations, the ACC filed a case against him.

By order of the court, a portion of his assets was earlier confiscated and frozen. During the investigation, additional information surfaced about other properties owned in his name, not included in the first phase of confiscation and freezing.

According to information received from various sources during the investigation, the accused has been attempting to sell or transfer his immovable and movable assets. If these illegally acquired properties are transferred, converted or sold before the trial is concluded, it may cause significant loss to the state.

Therefore, the petition stated, it is essential to immediately confiscate and freeze the properties listed in the attached schedule.
