News Desk, Bangladesh Global: |All those involved in the recent attacks on the offices of The Daily Star and Prothom Alo will be brought to book", Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today. Briefing reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, he said 31 people have so far been arrested in connection with the attacks. Responding to a question, Shafiqul said cases have been filed under the Penal Code as well as other relevant laws. Action would be taken against everyone involved, he said.
A mob attacked and vandalised The Daily Star office in Dhaka on Thursday night, setting fire to parts of the nine-storey building and trapping more than two dozen journalists and staff inside for more than four hours. Fire was set on the first and second floors, causing flames and thick smoke to spread rapidly through the building.
The mob attacks happened in response to the announcement of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi's death. Rioters argued the offices are sheltering anti-national agendas. The Government has condemned all attacks and stated it will take all steps to ensure proper justice for victims and bring perpetrators to court.
