Tarique Rahman set to become Prime Minister

Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a decisive victory in the 13th national parliamentary election, as millions of voters exercised their franchise in a festive and peaceful atmosphere yesterday. The Party is leading decisively at over 200 constituencies throughout the nation, putting the party on course for a two-thirds majority. As a result, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is going to take over as the country's next Prime Minister.

Tarique Rahman contested from two constituencies in the 13th parliamentary election and has secured victory in both, according to unofficial results. He has been unofficially declared elected from Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies after securing victories over his nearest rivals.

Voting began simultaneously at 7:30 am on Saturday in 42,779 centers across the country and ended at 4:30 pm. Voters have cast their votes on the future reconstruction of Bangladesh. Now the wait has began for the announcement of the finalized results.

This is the largest number of political parties participating in the elections since the registration process began in 2008. A total of 51 parties; including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and National Citizen Party are contesting the elections. The total number of candidates is 2,029. Of these, 1,755 are party candidates and 274 are independent. Among them, there are 80 female candidates. In total, 119 election symbols have been allocated this year by the Election Commission.
