News Desk, Bangladesh Global: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Tarique Rahman on "leading the BNP to a resounding victory" in the elections. "I extend my warmest felicitations to Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading the BNP to a resounding victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. I also congratulate the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the elections," he said in a message.

He added that Pakistan is looking forward to working closely with the new Bangladesh leadership to further strengthen historic, brotherly multifaceted bilateral relations and advance shared goals of peace, stability and development in South Asia and beyond.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a decisive victory in the 13th national parliamentary election, where it is leading decisively in over 200 constituencies throughout the nation, putting the party on course for a two-thirds majority. As a result, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is going to take over as the country's next Prime Minister.

Bangladesh and Pakistan have started redeveloping ties since fall of the previous regime. Last month, commercial flights between Dhaka and Karachi reopened, marking the first direct connection between the two nations in 14 years. Pakistan’s foreign minister also recently visited Dhaka for the first time in 13 years. Besides, senior military officials from both countries have held bilateral meetings on security cooperation, and trade between them have grown significantly last year.
