Lack of efficient and proper land management is a hindrance to national development: Land Minister

Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: Land Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda urged the land officials to work towards building a smart Bangladesh by implementing sustainable, people-friendly land services, inspired by the spirit of independence.

The land minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled 'Leadership and Development Thoughts of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman' on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day 2024 at Bhumi Bhaban on Tuesday.

Chairman of Land Appeal Board AKM Shamimul Haque, Chairman of Land Reform Board Md Abdus Sabur Mandal, Director General of Land Records and Survey Directorate Anis Mahmud were also present as discussants in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Land Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman. Public officials of the Ministry of Land and its affiliated offices/agencies were present at the discussion.

The land minister said, after our independence, Bangabandhu had given importance to the proper and sustainable use of land and the just rights of the people over land in building the country and nation. After the independence of Bangladesh, he took various landmark decisions. His worthy daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the same continuation, took land management reforms seriously and made it a part of Smart Bangladesh and Delta Plan.

Narayon Chandra Chanda also addressed the land officials, stating that just as heroic freedom fighters once plunged into the historic struggle for the national liberation of our country and its people at the call of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; minister also said that, in the same manner, in this independent Bangladesh as called by the Prime Minister, we as the people's representatives and the public servants should work diligently to change the economic fate of the country and the people by implementing Smart Bangladesh.

The minister further stated that land is directly and indirectly related to the interests of every citizen of the country. The lack of efficient and proper land management is a hindrance to national development. To ensure a smart Bangladesh, efficient and proper land management must be ensured.

The secretary said Bangabandhu was the leader of the soil and the people. He inspired the entire nation under one umbrella. As public servants, we all have much to learn from his unprecedented leadership. At this time, the secretary reiterated the commitment of all working under the Ministry of Land to work with the spirit of independence and said, collectively, we will endeavor in our respective fields to implement the Prime Minister's vision of Smart Bangladesh to the best of our abilities.

The speakers discussed the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the emergence of Bangladesh. The discussants highlighted Bangabandhu's leadership and role in every democratic and independence movement conducted for the liberation and rights of the Bangalis, including the anti-colonial movement from 1944, the All Party State Language Action Council in 1948, the Language Movement of 52, the United Front election of 54, the movement against military rule of 58, the 6-point movement of 66, the mass uprising of 69, the election of 70, and the great liberation war of 1971 and nation building after the victory in the Liberation War
