Dhaka, Bangladesh Global: The election to Gazipur City Corporation will be held on May 25, polls to Khulna and Barishal city corporations will take place on June 12, while Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporations will go to polls on June 21. Voting in all five city corporation elections will be held from 8:00am to 4:00pm using electronic voting machines (EVMs), Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam said today after a meeting of election commissioners.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Election Commission today with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal in the chair. Election Commissioners Ahsan Habib Khan, Rasheda Sultana, Md Alamgir and Md Anisur Rahman were present at the meeting.
As per the decisions, the EC staffers will keep the commission updated about the elections through tablet PCs. The commission's staffers will perform the duties of returning officers in all city elections.
According to the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers of the aspirants in the election is April 27, while the nomination papers will be scrutinised on April 30. The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is May 8, according to the announcement.
The last date for submission of nomination papers is May 16. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on May 18, while the last date for withdrawal of nomination is May 25.
The deadline for nomination paper submission is May 23. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on May 25 and candidates can withdraw the nominations by June 1.
