Naogaon, Bangladesh Global: Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar today said that the continuity of the government is necessary to ensure the country's sustainable development. The minister said this while planting palm sapling as the chief guest at a tree plantation ceremony on Ashekpur-Balatair road of Bhabicha union in Niamatpur upazila of the district this afternoon.
Palm trees play an important role in human life, he said, adding: "It gives fruit and works as a shade for passerby. It also gives protection from lightning strikes. Palm juice and molasses also play a role in the economy." Sadhan Chandra Majumder said: "I planted palm trees on Ghughudanga road when I was the chairman of Hajinagar Union Parishad of the upazila. Those rows of palm trees have now grown and the road has caught the attention of people from different parts of the country as a sightseeing spot.
He also urged to plant palm saplings and pay attention to its proper care. On the occasion, Niamatpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Imtiaz Morshed, Niamatpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Farid Ahmed, Niamatpur Upazila Awami League President Abul Kalam Azad, Bhabicha Union Parishad Chairman Obaidul Haque, among others, were present.
A total of 400 palm saplings will be planted on both sides of the Ashekpur-Balatir road under the agriculture development project of Rajshahi division through the extension of modern technology. Later, the minister inaugurated the Agricultural Technology Fair-2023 at Niamatpur Bahumukhi High School premises and visited the various stalls of the fair.
